Patient-centred neurology diagnostics.

We understand patients may be feeling anxious or overwhelmed at the prospect of a diagnosis, as well as the testing experience. We take the time to ensure you’re informed, understand the testing process, and do our best to make you as comfortable as possible.

To help you feel prepared, please read through our FAQs. If you have any questions after that, feel free to contact us.

FAQs

  • Do you accept referrals for children?

Yes, we do for EEG tests! We often have children in our practice for paediatric referrals. Our team works hard to create a calm environment, explaining the process in an age-appropriate way so they know what to expect. We’ll also take some extra time to show them the equipment and machinery. Young children are welcome to bring a special comfort toy from home to help put them at ease.

  • What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?

The exact preparation depends on what test you’re seeing us for. For example, you might need to avoid caffeine or sleep for an extended period. You can find all the preparation information on each test’s respective webpage.

Generally speaking, if you’re a new patient, please arrive 10 minutes early to fill in patient information forms — and don’t forget to bring your Medicare card!

Whether this is your first time or your tenth, a referral letter from your GP or treating specialist is required; this provides Prof Carroll with your clinical history. GP referrals are valid for 12 months, whereas specialist referrals are only valid for three months. Please check that your referral is current so that you can claim the full Medicare rebate for your appointment. You can email your referral to us ahead of time (wmcrooms@icloud.com) so that we have a copy on file.

If you have any relevant MRI and pathology reports or hospital letters, please bring them with you. If you’re booked in for a test with us and you have had a previous test elsewhere, please bring a copy of the report with you or let us know when and where this was done at the time of booking.

  • How much does an EEG test cost?

Appointment fees differ depending on the complexity and nature of the test. When we make your appointment, we’ll let you know about specific fees and Medicare rebates. Full payment is required upon completion of your appointment — you can pay by EFTPOS (preferred) or with cash.

  • What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to change, reschedule, or cancel your appointment, please call 9381 7958 as soon as possible or send an email to wmcrooms@icloud.com. Ideally, we appreciate a minimum of 48 hours’ notice for cancellations — cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice or non-attendance may incur a fee.

  • Is the test painful?

Will an EEG test hurt? All electrodes are applied to the skin using an adhesive which is easily removed. Tests involving stimulation (such as the nerve conduction study and evoked potential) may cause some discomfort, however should not be painful. Is an EMG test painful? If the EMG test is performed, the discomfort may be similar to acupuncture.
